I loved the realism of everyone's flaws in this series. They pointed them out, communicated them, showed them changing, showed them repenting, and showed them growing. It's hard to fangirl about a series like this because it's so human it almost feels wrong. But I absolutely loved it and would recommend. Now I need to get a few spoilers ranted off my chest because my favorite part had to be how it all ended in the BDSM centered epilogues.
Thank you so much Hwin Gwi-ssi for making one of the few well developed comics I know that has a good & proper usage of BDSM. Even the final comment on this topic is superb after the epilogue!
Starts off good, but then just devolves in to a bunch of drama surrounding a relationship I just couldn't get emotionally involved in. It was better as smut, and I don't say that about many series. The smut was A+, the drama was meehhhh.
Open and earnest communication! Emotional connection through BDSM (and outside of it)! So much affection and skinship! And best of all: all smut scenes are safe, sane, and consensual.
The summary seriously does not do this justice because it sounds like it's going to be a sleaze-fest, but there really is so much to unpack with the story--the drama itself is organic every time a plot point unfolds. It really handles both the good and ugly side of emotions really, really well.
All characters are well-rounded. Even the side characters make an impact--many of them women. And the relationship dynamics of the three main characters round this story up to a must-read. It reads like a love triangle, but I'm hoping it breaks the norm and go for poly.
I avoid love triangles like the plague, because they usually end up being too dramatic and make it uncomfortable to keep on reading... you always feel bad for the one who gets thrown away. Yet, this story is really captivating and surprisingly mature and 'realistic' (regarding the characters' feelings, not the setting). Also, the art is unusual but really pretty, and the characters are well developed. The story is nicely paced, too.
I highly recommend this one. One of Lezhin's (ongoing) best BLs.
