i couldn't put my finger on what's so off about this manga, until i recently saw some of the disney marvel products.
boruto is really a different manga masquerading in naruto's shadow, in other words, a repurposed IP.
The characters are altered to fit the plot, retconning certain power levels and experience.

I don't hate on this plotline but it really should have been its own original world. Only that if it was, it probably wouldn't have survived this long. The power of the brand keeps it alive, like the aforementioned Disney products (which have destroyed our favorite comic characters)

Random odea on the story, but I bet the MC's mom is actually a vampire, and so his he but he just doesn't know it
And like, the world that the game is built off of is actually a real world in another dimension or something like that, and the entire point of putting MC in the game for so long is to make it easier for him to accept it when his mom tells him he's a vampire and to get rid of his whole fear of blood thing

Or at least that's my theory so far
