I think there is a necessity to throw away realism in fiction. Not necessarily the actual realism in the story, but the social perceptions of the story from society. In fact, it's why I get upset when people dis "Cry, Or Better Yet, Beg." It's supposed to be a horrific tale of psychological abuse. It's clearly designed that way, to the exactness of the drawings, their precision echoing the madness of the ultra-uptight ML. It's infuriating to me that people whine about what a bad guy he is. He's supposed to be. That's the kind of story it is. If you don't like it, don't read it, especially after hearing what it's about. This kind of story has its uses, apart from being incredibly suspenseful and a great story in itself for people who like suspense. Some people grew up in similar situations to the FL, where they were abused, and it's better to read about it and find healing in seeing someone like you, than to choose a partner who's insane so you can try to relive it and find catharsis. A lot of people find abusive MLs cathartic, and that may be because they lived in situations that were not okay as kids. Power plays, alcoholism, drug addiction, neglect, parents with BPD, these things are all very real situations that people who are now adults try to find healing for through fictional tales. Even if the FL falls in love with the "red flag" ML (I'm so sick of reading red flag this, red flag that...), I think it's okay if the person reading it is finding some healing, or even if they are using it as an escape to mundanity. Live and let live.
i read the novel. and boy do i regret it big time. sure the author is really poetic with the writing. but the substance is just huge huge HUGE romanticization and glorification of abuse, cheating and toxic relationship. the biggest AH of the story is ML. but guess what, he got rewarded in the end, even after all the bad things he did. the good fellow one,
if you go to the spoiler forum of this novel/webtoon, you will see a lot of people who will do mental gymnastics to justify how good and romantic this story.. it's so wild and concerning.
One of the greatest fantasy drama with amazing writing I have read. Hope the webtoon won't disappoint because the novel was incredible.
Ridiculous story (I've read the novel). The art is beautiful and that is the only reason why I check out the chapters. But not even the art can save such a disastrous mess... main characters have zero chemistry in the manhwa. With being illustrated everything just seems even more ridiculous and cringe in this story.
