That thing you're talking about is called insight. It happens in people all the time. You hit a breaking point, or you finally think of a solution to a problem. You've maybe heard of the analogy of a pressure cooker? Some people operate better under pressure, some people wake up in the middle of night and say "eureka!"
There's even writers' block, where you are just sitting over your computer and no words are coming to you at the moment. But then, for some reason it just happens and the words start pouring out.
I hear what you're saying but you have to remember we, as the reader are just sitting back and comfortably thinking clearly about everything. There are even sports fans who watch athletes on TV who say they would have run a different play. When in reality the athletes on TV are much better and more knowledgeable, they just happen to be under a lot of pressure among other things.
It can be annoying if you happen to forget that while reading.
