What you say does sound reasonable but unrealistic. People would usually contact the authorities for something as bizarre like this. The only reason why the MC wouldn't report the monster to the authorities is if it would somehow get him into trouble too. The question is why would he get into trouble for reporting his monster friend? I don't see why. The writers have to answer this question otherwise the story is build on a massive plot hole.

For anyone confused here's a theory: Mizuha's ancestor the woman who attacked March's village in the past, made a deal with the knocker who infected her arm to show it how to take Fushi. That knocker was passed on and got smaller over the centuries to her progeny, the very same knocker who was infecting Mizuha the whole time. Fushi wanted to talk with it since it knew how to at that point and come to some form of agreement but instead it decided to start over and take a different approach. I think they can return to their paradise for a time and be reborn into the physical world.

Mizuha's family is no longer infected with knockers at all from now on and likely won't ever be in the future.
