About the final/ultimate villain’s defeat (chap
About the evil high priest’s defeat: Idk why, but this chapter was so cliché and cringy. Im glad that Ashtarte's name was cleared, but the execution of the settlement for the high priest was very quick and mundane. It feels a bit unfair to Ashtarte who has had a lot of misfortune since birth, but the end for the high priest is not worth Ashtarte's suffering.
And we HAVE to mention ashtarte’s sperm donor blocking the knife for her and getting stabbed. Bffr. I'm pretty sure sperm donor can definitely block that dagger yet he didn't because he wanted to spout some cheesy line. Remember, he destroyed half of the temples in the empire and probably killed many yet he cannot block a dagger swung by an old and not physically fit priest.
He also exists just to make the life of the fl harder so that she can seem pitiful.
We got no explanation on why he did it, and how are you telling me to believe the fact that a person who managed to fool an entire empire STUPIDLY and ACCIDENTALLY admitted to the crime in front of everyone😕?
This is the biggest wet fart of an ending. I feel nothing. No, the only way to redeem this whole mess is for her to flip off her family and peace out with the ML.
The romance: ngl I really like how the romance in this was handled!! Its so nice when a FL knows what/who she wants! I loved how she set clear boundaries and didn't lead the 2nd ML on. The ML was a green flag as well, as he supported Ashtarte in any way that he could!! 2nd ML was so reasonable, I love how he directly confessed and then backed off once he was rejected ♥️ and he always respected the boundaries she set (eg not allowing him to call her by only her first name/without using her official title)— like this girl had these two men whipped for her but never took advantage of it/acted wishy washy, so she ate.
The final chapter/ending: Her ‘family’ hiding the true prophecy to protect that b*tch Ameryllis’ dignity?? AND WHAT ABOUT ASHTARTE. Screw y'all mfs. Even until they end they cared more about Amaryllis, a fake and not even a human. They went out of the way to hide how much of a vile creature she was and has ensured that Ashtarte will continue to be discriminated against and attacked
The way I read the first chapter of the epilogue and immediately felt like FLIPPING A TABLE. Fuck this male lead, sick of this crap Relationship issues speedrun world record
Are we sure this is an epilogue and not an abbreviated run-through of a canceled third season or something?
Guys this male lead is officially an idiot and the author is brainless . Wdym the ML thought it was fine to just confess and completely forgot about getting engaged to her, but he can remember that when women cut their hair short it often signals a breakup?? What… that makes no sense bfr
This epilogue that revolves around Chezael and minimised Ashtarte & Rion could've been made into a different series, you know? Why you give us these characters at this point of their life? But props to Ash's "You don't have to forgive anyone". Spoken like a true veteran who totally didn't forgive the shitheads who wronged her 🤣
don’t think I’ll ever get over/forgive the ML for having to be told that he should marry the FL. Man was okay with just having her linger in his home forever. Never thought about progressing the relationship to any official degree. She really should have ended up with the priest but whatever. It’s her life.
The only positive information from this 10 chapter epilogue is finding out that the family finally did tell the fucking truth about the homoculus.
** After all this, I only finished reading this with the same morbid fascination one watches a train wreck. Knowing its tragic but completely unable to look away. This is compelling in its atrociousness.**
The abuse (mostly neglect) is depicted incredibly well, with a lot of complexity in the characters behaviors, it explores their motivations, and how some effects can be unintended but still abusive and hurtful. The story really goes into the participation of young people in the abuse, and how the victim doesn't have to forgive, and is entitled to cutting contact and moving on. Sadly rushed in the second season.
The rest of story? Meeeeh. Bland as fuck. Very cliché. Frustrating even. But I really loved reading a story where the abused takes no shit and lives on without forgiving and feeling the need to.
Daon is a very impressive writer as this is one of the best examples of the effects of neglect and isolation I've seen in a manhwa since Orange Marmalade. The MC, Ashtarte, grows up extremely quickly and learns to defend herself and choose her own family over royals that abandon her. However, this is done through actions and how she carries herself, from rejecting her family's advances to beginning to prioritize her chosen family over the royals that precede her. In my opinion, very few series do this well without having to resort to a one chapter monologue. The MC is expected to be kind, but I would argue she is more understanding than being kind for the sake of being a Cindarella character. She reaches out when she senses injustice but is not kind for no reason to those that have slighted her. Most of all, her reactions are extremely believable and despite being a magical genius, her learning about magic and using it to exact revenge is never a possibility. She learns as we do about the world and feels more human than a lot of characters I have read recently. The setting of European ambience empires and infighting feels like the backdrop for a story on a girl that grows to love herself, instead of a power trip fantasy that many other manhwa go into. Hoping the series continues to focus on the MC in the future and will stay updated!
wow, just wow, really i like it, ML so far is just pure understanding and i like that her family isnt villains, but humans with own shadows
Just that
