Coustas and Ininia are being cruel like only children can be.

Coustas has anger inside him yet, by his flashback I surmise that it has at most 3 years since Dagda adopted him, and maybe not even all that, so the hurts of life didn't completely left him yet even if he already has love for his father.

And Ininia is young, the Brimhats clearly showed that they aren't above manipulating children, and her age is when a child takes everything said to them literally, more so when they aren't taught to have critical thinking, she is just following the instructions of her master to the tee, thinking that any method to achieve that is valid because their cause is "just".

This arc really shows why children with supernatural powers need to have constant and unbiased care of their elders.

Not that the Pointyhats have shown to be perfect, but at least in their system there is an oversight.
