    My first reaction was the same as yours. Then I thought more about it and it became clear to me.
    The reason is very simple:
    If we see her reaction right now, it will reveal to us the reader whether she is on the mc's side or not. (After all, in the scenes from her point of view, we usually get her inner thoughts.)
    Sure, she could've been shown in a neutral way that would reveal her true loyalties, but that would have ended up just being a wasted panel of her reacting in a vague manner that could be interpreted either way.
