@Fortium It doesn't have a web novel. Fair warning, unlike most books J-Novel Club has, Banner of the Stars is a proper traditional novel, not a light novel. It doesn't have any illustrations besides the book cover art.

The author has a huge interest in languages and created his own artificial language with proper pronunciations, words, and grammar that the characters speak with. There's even a separate 56-page glossary book filled with Abh words.

My serious recommendation is to watch the anime adaptations first before you make the jump into the books. But if you want to go in deep, feel free and follow the link below. Start with the prequel Crest of the Stars (that basically introduces how Jinto and Lafiel met) and then move onto the main series Banner of the Stars (which covers Jinto and Lafiel's journey through life as Lafiel slowly climbs up the royal ladder to one day become Empress).

It's a shame the anime is getting so much hate, and I can't even entirely blame them for it.  Something about the anime makes it feel a bit more cringe than it actually is in the manga, regardless of which i'm still enjoying it and I hope others can eventually come to like it more once the story starts pickin up the pace
