Chapters like this make me remember a term I learned some years back... Sonder. I don't remember from where it is, but the term alludes to the capacity of a writer or artist that tells stories of being able to pass the feeling that every single character has a life, a story in their world.

Like when you are walking in the street and suddenly you look at someone random in it and realize... they have a life completely independent from you, stories that you will not know, and knowing or not maybe very well never affect you... but they exist and they live.

This chapter isn't subtle, but an inferior writer wouldn't be able to transmit the feeling of levity, of simplicity.,.. of life.
