After training abroad, Link sets sail back to Hyrule but gets shipwrecked during a violent storm. He wakes up on Koholint Island and is taken in by a kind man named Tarin and his daughter Marin, who looks strikingly like Princess Zelda. A mysterious owl informs Link that to return home, he must awaken the Wind Fish by gathering and playing the eight Instruments of the Sirens. The bosses in Link's Awakening, guarding the Sirens' Instruments, are said to be the Nightmares of the Wind Fish. When Link plays the Ballad of the Wind Fish with all eight Instruments, he gains access to the giant egg atop Tal Tal Mountains, where the Wind Fish sleeps. There, he must confront the final Nightmare, which includes shadowy apparitions and umbral visions of past foes. These Nightmares serve as the ultimate challenge before Link can potentially return to his world.
