Well... yeah, it really doesn't advance the story, and I don't think Hamada-sensei has any illusion of the contrary.
The thing with Hamada-sensei is... he has a personal policy, one that demands of him that in any possible situation... he undresses his characters, and when I say any possible situation I MEAN it... by the way, those are his words XD.
I am not defending every decision of his, you are quite right in your opinion, I am just pointing out that this specific quirk of his is one of sincere intention and most probably won't change in any way.
Personally, I do skip some scenes when I think they get too indulgent, but I do come back to them too, I am a pretty carefree person when I like a story, and this series is very high in my opinion so it is easy for me to give it some leeway.
i'm curious what happened between vol 2 and 3. The manga used to be a drama, slightly sad romance cuz MC and FMC weren't soulmates, and then MC unties his red string. Then suddenly Vol 3, FMC is the narrator and she's suddenly tied to MC with no explication whatsoever, and now it's a cutesy wholesome romance. The tone shifted and we get no explanation for why the string changed

Nothing like good ol' manga as always.
