Sure buying stuff at lower market value makes sense. I can buy that for the mandragora but not for the big spirit gem (national treasure). MC is trying to become higher rank 100gold vs 1k/10k gold, the difference in the value is too big for anyone to let it go. MC could have gotten more magical gems to boost his level or Rye Bread for last 10-100 decades.
Why would he need to take the gold right away? if the guild is good at handling ''time consuming bullshit'', let them handle it and you take your money at a later date.
