Sunao Moriyama stumbles upon a peculiar yet adorable creature, which he names Potemayo. Potemayo begins to follow Sunao everywhere, often perched atop his head. This unusual discovery quickly becomes the talk of his school class. Not long after, another similar creature emerges and is named Guchuko by one of Sunao's classmates.
