There seems to be a weird link between post-apocalyptic settings and slice-of-life/ecchi/romance. Desert Punk is one of my favorites.

He doesn't want to rely on his Nine Eyes because although it gives him a greater grasp of the situation, it also inhibits his growth. That is, the more he uses Nine Eyes, the more he gives in to his fear and the less likely he is to take bold actions. And bold actions are what get you far, not safe bets.
