There are so many more avenues for plot this could explore ie. Dominating the dimensional trade market, becoming the strongest within his own world, growing his (adorable) little pet ect. Plus I think the story only really starts after he takes the throne and becomes strong enough to be on said throne

If the could beat the demon king on there own the wouldn't summon a hero in the first place stupid. This whole manga is showing you how much stronger a hero is then armies and your brilliant idea is to let a army face the demon king.
