The pacing wasn't a major issue tbh and idk abt the opponents being similar, pretty sure each tensen has their own unique strategy and use of tao + the whole type matchup made it more unique, even if I'm not a complete fan of it.

Gabimaru's motivation got used way too much true and only got good during moments where it really mattered, like when he regained his memory or his fight with Shija.

I'd say the last few arcs made up for it.
