Hidden amidst the serene landscapes of the English countryside stands the foreboding manor of the Phantomhive family. This lineage has earned a reputation as the cold and ruthless "Queen's Watchdog" and leads London's criminal underworld. Following a tragic event that claims the lives of the Earl and his wife, their son Ciel, a young boy, steps forward to claim his title as the new Earl of the Phantomhive house. Initially, many view him merely as a child surrounded by peculiar servants. However, they soon learn it is unwise to interfere with Ciel and his demonic butler Sebastian. Set at the close of the 19th century, "Black Butler" chronicles the duo as they confront myriad mysteries and perils threatening England and the Queen, while also unraveling the truth behind the fate of Ciel's parents. In 2014, the official Twitter account revealed that "Black Butler" had surpassed 20 million copies sold globally. Yen Press has published the series in English under the title "Black Butler" since January 26, 2010, and digitally since April 8, 2014. It has been simulpub by Yen Press. Additionally, it has been published in French by Kana since November 2009; in German by Carlsen Comics; in Italian by Panini Comics; in Polish by Waneko since February 2011; in Spanish by Norma Editorial since November 2011; and in Brazilian Portuguese by Panini Comics since July 2012. The manga has inspired adaptations into drama CDs released between August 10, 2007, and November 26, 2008; various video games; a musical titled "Kuroshitsuji: The Most Beautiful DEATH in The World," staged from May 3, 2010, to May 23, 2010; and a live-action film on January 18, 2014.
