If I had to guess what would be the best thing to do, it would be siege tactics, starve them out and maybe even speed up the process with diseases and such, it's still a risky option but it would probably be the safest course of action. Though if they wanna actually commit to this plan they will need more people, otherwise they won't be able to actually keep them cut off from any supply.

Naw, after the hint it was obvious even to just manga readers.  The character was introduced some chapters ago, and the design is quite unique and unmistakeable.  Of course, not having it pointed out then you totally would miss it.
