I decided to write a review for this manga because no one else has done so yet.
First, let's talk about the story. Nagisa is a young high school girl living with her mother, who was once a famous model. After giving birth to Nagisa, she quit modeling and became a writer instead. Her mother was set to marry a young, somewhat creepy photographer named Ryunosuke, whom Nagisa wasn't particularly fond of. However, seeing her mother happy, Nagisa allowed the marriage to happen. Tragically, during their honeymoon, Nagisa's mother died in an accident, leaving Nagisa alone with her new stepfather.
They had to navigate through their grief together, dealing with the daily challenges of missing a wife and mother while also trying to understand each other better. Despite the serious premise, the story contains many humorous moments. I find the plot simple yet intriguing, especially how the main character navigates life's ups and downs.
The artwork was decent; it could have been better, but I won't complain. The characters were well-developed and drawn, each with distinct personalities that added charm to the narrative. Nagisa is cool and composed, while Ryunosuke is quirky and funny. Their dynamic makes the story enjoyable.
In conclusion, this manga is a delightful read, combining elements of comedy, drama, and slice-of-life themes. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good balance of humor and heartfelt moments. Don't miss out on this gem!
The summary of Baby Pop really grabbed my attention. It seemed a bit strange, and I was eager to dive into the manga. Comprising 11 chapters filled with comedy, angst, friendships, family bonds, and a hint of romance, it sounded absurd but turned out better than expected!
Story: (8)
The plot is fairly standard, lacking any standout elements apart from its authentic portrayal of everyday life. This series essentially presents a slice-of-life narrative about two individuals who've lost someone dear - one his wife, the other her mother. The storyline mostly revolves around their new shared existence and daily routines. It's all very ordinary yet oddly comforting, making the reading experience quite soothing.
Art: (7)
The artwork was somewhat underwhelming. Most panels appeared sketchy and peculiar, though there were moments where the quality noticeably improved, showcasing the artist's potential for beautiful illustrations. Character designs were distinctive, at least for key characters. Some background figures looked too similar across different arcs, but this didn't significantly detract from my enjoyment. Over time, you'll adapt to the art style, even if it doesn't leave you in awe due to its mediocrity.
Character: (9)
This aspect was the highlight of the series and impressively executed despite its brevity. The protagonists Ryu and Nagisa were endearing and relatable. Their evolving relationship was beautifully portrayed and deeply moving, especially when Nagisa provided comfort to Ryu, reversing the usual dynamic. Supporting characters were likable, albeit somewhat stereotypical. I was pleasantly surprised by the character development in such a short series.
Enjoyment: (10)
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Baby Pop! It's concise, simple, sweet, and highly realistic. The humor was spot-on, eliciting genuine laughter in several instances, and the pacing suited the story well. I can easily see myself revisiting this manga when I need a laugh or some light-hearted entertainment.
Overall: (8)
The artwork was initially off-putting, but I got accustomed to it after the second chapter. Disregarding that aspect, Baby Pop stands as a delightful two-volume series. It's charming and packed with humorous moments. If you're seeking a tranquil, funny read with a few poignant scenes, this brief manga might be perfect for you! :)
