Death note in itself is not a 10/10 masterpiece. The story did a big nosedive after part 1. Death note is a really really good manga, but people are way too spoiled. Not everything has to be a masterpiece to be good, and Platinum End was definitely good.

I think he did the same but didn't get any, the old man probably check the information about him within the japan but the journalist looked him up outside the japan information itself.
