pretty cool they dropped the pretenses right in chapter 1 and just said MC's whole goal is to just buy slaves and collect all the money they've earned, having them live in a shack in his yard and tossing them whatever bits of their profit he feels like at the time. not even a "bad guy" MC. and of course it's being used to tie the girls to him emotionally by default, instead of building actual relationships. the moral slavery delusion this genre's had is going terminal.

He had serious confidence issues -> by luck got a girlfriend but didn't assert himself because lack of confidence -> girlfriend took advantage of him because he never stood up for himself for years -> he is close to hitting breaking point when he realised that his situation is also partly his fault -> girlfriend then betrays him again; heartbreak sinks in and turns whatever's left of attachment to her into scorn -> the hate drives him to not care about his self-esteem anymore, which led to this situation, and to just break up with her -> He vows to try and do things differently because he didn't want to be abused and used by anyone anymore due to his "lack of confidence."
Heartbreak and betrayal can have a big impact on anyone's mental state; add in the support of the cast and his fear of repeating the same mistakes, and that is why the MC stabilized so quickly.
