A highly skilled ninja with a light-brown/dark-blonde messy haircut and a goatee. He is first introduced in episode 37, where he and Gintoki fight over the last copy of the Christmas double issue Jump, which turns out to be the Christmas double issue Akamaru Jump. In fact, he first appeared in episode 36 as the assistant to the conman Dreamcatcher. It seems he was once part of the Oniwabanshu and knows Ayame. He is the first ninja in the series who matches Gintoki's skills and obsessive love for Jump. He suffers from hemorrhoids. He leads a freelance ninja team known as the "Shinobi 5." His father is reputed to be the strongest man in the Oniwabanshu and an instructor to many, including Ayame Sarutobi.
His name is loosely based on the famous ninja from Iga, Hattori Hanzou.
