Although she appears to be a normal, cute girl dressed in Chinese-style clothing, she actually belongs to the Yato Clan, one of the strongest and most bloodthirsty Amanto races. The Yato people have "transparent" skin that is highly sensitive to sunlight, so Kagura always carries a purple parasol. This parasol also serves as a weapon for the Yato clan; Kagura's version is bulletproof and can fire bullets from its tip. Due to her Yato heritage, she possesses superhuman strength, enough to stop a speeding motor-scooter with one hand. However, she struggles to control her strength perfectly, often leading to unfortunate accidents, especially with pets. Most of her pets, except for Sadaharu, have met untimely deaths at her hands. Kagura is incredibly flexible and fast, capable of catching multiple speeding bullets between her teeth and fingers. During battles, she frequently performs acrobatic feats, flipping through the air. Her Yato blood grants her rapid regeneration abilities, allowing her to heal from injuries quickly. For example, during the Benizakura arc, she healed from a gunshot wound almost overnight. She has an unusually large appetite and can consume vast amounts of food within seconds. Despite this, her tastes are quite simple, with sukonbu, rice, and eggs being among her favorite foods. Her immediate family includes her father, Umibouzu, a renowned alien hunter, her deceased mother, and her older brother Kamui, who was once presumed missing but is now involved with the space pirates Harusame. Kagura came to Earth to earn money for her family. Initially, she worked for a gang but ran away when they ordered her to kill someone. Soon after, she met Gintoki and Shinpachi when Gintoki accidentally hit her with his scooter. After they helped her escape the gang, she coerced Gintoki into hiring her. She now lives at the Yorozuya headquarters and sleeps in Gintoki's closet, much like Doraemon. Kagura shares an odd brother-sister-like relationship with Gintoki. Together with Shinpachi, the three form a strange, dysfunctional yet tightly knit family. Kagura is very protective of Gintoki and rarely lets anyone else pick on him. She trusts in Gintoki's abilities and strength implicitly, often quoting his advice or mimicking his bad habits, such as picking her nose or swearing. Kagura is somewhat of a tomboy, frequently participating in games with neighborhood boys. Though her candid manner of speech often leads them to shun her, she doesn't mind and will force her way into their games if necessary. In battle, she is bull-headed and a sore loser, not above resorting to petty tricks to win. Unlike many conventional manga heroines, she lacks decorum, table manners, and concern for physical appearance, often engaging in unladylike behavior. She considers Okita Sougo, the captain of the Shinsengumi, a rival and detests him. At one point, she mentioned that he "definitely likes me," though this hasn't been brought up since, making it uncertain whether it should be considered canon. Though Kagura usually teases Shinpachi, she deeply cares for him and regards him as a brother. She also shows great respect toward his older sister, Shimura Tae, often calling her "Anego." Her superhuman strength makes her clumsy with pets, and most of her pets, aside from Sadaharu, have died due to her carelessness. Sadaharu, her 27th pet, is an exception, and she cuddles with him when feeling down. Kagura seems to be one of the few people, along with Ane, Mone, and Komako, whom Sadaharu listens to. In the Yoshiwara in Flames arc, Kagura meets her older brother Kamui, who abandoned her because he viewed her as weak. During this arc, Kagura and Shinpachi team up against a Yato veteran named Abuto. When Shinpachi is severely injured by Abuto, Kagura can no longer suppress her Yato instincts and reveals her true killing power, easily overwhelming Abuto.
