She had always dreamed of attending Nishi High School, and Ayumu, not wanting to be separated from her friend, promised to study hard for the entrance exam. When the results were announced, Ayumu passed but Shii-chan did not. Feeling betrayed, Shii-chan lashed out at Ayumu, saying she never wanted to see her again.

That same night, Shii-chan attempted suicide, leaving Ayumu feeling deeply responsible. At Nishi High School, Ayumu made a vow never to make friends again so she wouldn't have to risk hurting anyone else.
