Yuna (ユウナ Yūna) is the female protagonist in both Square Enix's "Final Fantasy X" and "Final Fantasy X-2," part of the "Final Fantasy" series of console role-playing games. She has also made cameo appearances in "Kingdom Hearts II."
Designed by Tetsuya Nomura, with artwork by both Nomura and Yoshitaka Amano, Yuna is introduced in "Final Fantasy X" as a reserved, intelligent, and serious girl. Born in Bevelle and raised on Besaid Island, she wears formal attire that contrasts with Tidus' more casual look. As a Summoner of Yevon, she can summon powerful creatures known as "Aeons." Yuna is mild-mannered and soft-spoken but remains steadfast in her mission to destroy Sin. She has heterochromatic eyes—blue and green—due to her half-Al Bhed heritage from her mother.
In "Final Fantasy X," Yuna embarks on a pilgrimage across Spira to end the threat posed by Sin, aided by her Aeons and Guardians. Her initial Guardians include Kimahri Ronso, Lulu, and Wakka. Later, Tidus, Auron, and Rikku join her group. Throughout the game, Yuna grows more battle-hardened and questions her beliefs in Yevon, especially after learning about Seymour Guado's true intentions. Her relationship with Tidus deepens, causing her to reconsider her quest and seek a permanent solution to defeat Sin.
When Yuna discovers that the Church of Yevon uses machina, violating its own teachings, and learns the full implications of the Final Summoning, she decides to break the cycle and find another way to defeat Sin. This leads to a confrontation with Yu Yevon, the true progenitor of Spira's sorrows. After defeating Yu Yevon, Tidus vanishes, leaving Yuna heartbroken.
In "Final Fantasy X-2," set two years later, Yuna undergoes a significant transformation. Now a sphere hunter, she joins the Gullwings, hoping to find clues about Tidus. Alongside Rikku and Paine, Yuna becomes more open and direct, though still kind-hearted and dedicated to helping others. The trio seeks to restore unity and peace to Spira while uncovering the truth behind Shuyin's plot and the factions vying for power in the post-Sin world.
Yuna, Rikku, and Paine also appear in "Kingdom Hearts II," working initially for Maleficent before switching allegiance to Leon and the Hollow Bastion Restoration Committee. They forgive Sora and his friends for deceiving them and give him the "Gullwing" Keychain as a token of their appreciation.
