Okudaira Akira and Shinobu's father, husband to Okudaira Shouko. He stands as the family patriarch, moderately aware of his children's lives, though his involvement often proves unwelcome and exasperating to them. His relentless and tactless inquiries about their lives mirror Shinobu's behavior, with Shinobu himself noting that his father is even more persistent than he is. He shows up at Akira's school events, attending the drama festival both years, even when Akira was merely a stagehand the first time. Aware of Shinobu's relationship with Mogi, he boldly asks if they have "done anything funny" together in front of Shouko and Akira, much to the dismay of the Okudaira women. Mostly, he enjoys sitting and reading the paper. Unlike his wife, when Akira and Shinobu argue, he simply asks what's going on, then returns to his activities, indicating that his wife takes on the role of the family disciplinarian.
