Yoko Shiraki is a young woman born into the wealthy Shiraki family, renowned for their involvement in boxing. She serves as the main female protagonist in Ashita no Joe. She is exceptionally polite, graceful, and kind, embodying the perfect demeanor expected of someone from a high-ranking family. She frequently engages in charitable activities. Consequently, her appearance and personality starkly contrast with those of other characters who have only known poverty and hardship. One such character is Joe, who is the first to point out that her supposed 'kindness' seems insincere. He suggests that her sympathy for the poor might just be a way for her to feel superior to those who struggle to find food. Initially, she is often shocked by his actions, but over time, she becomes the one who understands him best. Joe initially dislikes her, calling her an 'evil woman' who tries to meddle in his life, often finding herself involved in many situations he encounters later in the series.
