Yashamaru was a medic-nin, the younger brother of Karura, and the uncle of Gaara. Initially, Gaara believed that Yashamaru was the only person who cared for him. Yashamaru taught Gaara about physical pain, emotional pain, and love—concepts Gaara had been completely unaware of during his childhood. The Fourth Kazekage ordered Yashamaru to assassinate Gaara, giving him the choice to proceed or not. Yashamaru willingly accepted the mission to avenge his older sister's untimely death. However, the assassination attempt turned into a desperate suicide mission and ultimately failed. Before dying, Yashamaru told Gaara that no one had ever truly loved him, not even himself. This revelation left Gaara even more emotionally devastated than before. His suicide bombing attempt on Gaara's life contributed to Gaara's psychological instability. Yashamaru's last words to Gaara were, "This is it. Please die." Later, when Gaara meets the Fourth Kazekage, it is revealed that everything Yashamaru said during the assassination attempt was part of his orders from the Fourth Kazekage. In reality, Yashamaru genuinely cared for Gaara, as did Gaara's mother.
