The main protagonist of the story, Yamato, moved from his rural home in Hiroshima to his aunt's dormitory in Tokyo to transform himself. While exploring his new high school, he spots a beautiful high jumper practicing and immediately falls in love. By coincidence, she turns out to be his next-door neighbor, Suzuka Asahina. Yamato is often clumsy and carefree, leading him into awkward situations. However, when necessary, he can become focused and determined. He is notably clueless about girls and their emotions. Despite not excelling academically, he discovers a natural talent for sprinting and joins the track and field team.
During his senior year of high school, he becomes a well-liked and respected track captain. Although he does not achieve his goal of becoming the top 100-meter sprinter nationally, he is scouted and recommended to attend Touto University and Seijo University. After ending his commitment with Saki and realizing his continued love for Asahina, he decides to aim for Seijo University. When he confesses to Suzuka that he wants to restart their relationship, she initially refuses due to fear of getting hurt. Through patience, understanding, and persistence, they reconcile. During Seijo University's track tryouts, Yamato starts poorly but shows enough potential at the end for the Selection Committee to unanimously choose him for the scholarship. Pressured by Yasunobu, Yamato decides to take his relationship with Suzuka to the next level. Initially hesitant, Suzuka eventually agrees, and they move forward in their relationship. Three months later, they learn that Suzuka is pregnant. Yamato is troubled by the decision between having an abortion and attending university or keeping the baby and working. He admits to Suzuka that he wants her to keep the baby. After much discussion, they decide to keep the baby, get married, and drop out of university. They have a daughter named Fuuka.
In the sequel manga named Fuuka, it is revealed that Yamato will win the silver medal in the Olympics 100-meter race, finally beating Arima who takes bronze. (Source: Wikipedia)
