Tanaka Toshie is a quiet and solitary high school student, often referred to as "asparagus" by her only friend, Manatsu. Despite their close bond, Toshie frequently faces bullying from a group of girls after school. She has shared with Manatsu various methods of committing suicide, and together they spent time making money and discussing the best ways to end their lives.
After a failed suicide attempt where Manatsu tried to jump off a building, she realized that she no longer wanted to die. However, Toshie decided to take her own life by cutting her wrist. At her funeral, her full name was finally revealed to those in attendance.
