Manatsu is a high school student who feels her life is dull and without purpose. Her father left the family, and her mother seems more focused on academic achievements than on Manatsu's emotional needs. At school, Manatsu encounters a girl nicknamed Asparagus, who is often bullied and copes with her pain by cutting herself. Manatsu and Asparagus form a close friendship, and together they make a suicide pact. Through her bond with Asparagus, Manatsu starts to feel alive again and becomes increasingly fascinated by death and the fragility of life.
