Murata Tetsuko is a swordsmith based in Edo. She is the daughter of the famous swordsmith Murata Jintetsu and the younger sister of Murata Tetsuya, both of whom are deceased. She has assisted Sakata Gintoki and the Yorozuya on multiple occasions.
Tetsuko is shy and introverted, barely greeting Gintoki when they first met during the Benizakura arc. However, she has a kind heart, as shown in Episode 61 when she saved Gintoki from Nizou. Her voice is relatively soft, contrasting with her brother who had hearing issues and often ended up shouting even when speaking normally.
During the Itou arc, Tetsuko reappeared when the Yorozuya visited her along with Hijikata Toushirou, who was cursed by his new sword. In Episode 102, she demonstrated extensive knowledge about swords, explaining the history of the cursed hikikomori-possessed sword that was tormenting Hijikata.
In manga chapter 303, Tetsuko also joined other citizens in defending the Kabuki District during the war.
