Tamaki Otoya is the last in a lineage of ancient summoners known as shugoshi. As a second-year high school student, he has inherited the unique ability to generate defensive shields and summon a shieki and a gohou, spiritual entities that assist in protection. When an ancient rival is reborn, Tamaki must harness his powers to protect the local population from jaki, demons that possess human souls and fill them with negative energy. Struggling with this immense responsibility, he leans on his childhood friend Asahi for love and support. However, Asahi has her own crucial role to play and eventually leaves Tamaki's side. Determined, Tamaki faces the threat posed by the ancient Hira, which could destroy all of humanity. It will take all of Tamaki's faith, empathy, and forgiveness to save mankind from total annihilation and reunite with Asahi.
