Takaya is a 17-year-old high school student, marked by loneliness, pride, and a fiery spirit. He has endured a tumultuous past, including abuse from his father, separation from his divorced mother, and now lives in Matsumoto. Strange, ghostly occurrences begin to plague Matsumoto, particularly affecting his best friend, Yuzuru. Upon meeting the enigmatic Tachibana Yoshiaki, Takaya learns he is the reincarnation of Uesugi Kagetora, once the leader of the Uesugi Yashashu. His new destiny involves battling malevolent spirits and restless souls of ancient lords and warriors.
In this modern era, it appears that the powerful warlords and heroes from the Sengoku Period (the Civil Wars) have been reborn across Japan. They are given another chance to reignite the brutal territorial conflicts of their time. Some lords revive their thwarted ambitions to dominate the country, others seek vengeance on old foes or reclaim lost loves, while some nobles strive to protect their lands and people as guardian deities. The Yami-Sengoku (Dark Civil Wars) are thus unfolding.
Kagetora has been reborn multiple times over the past 400 years as a powerful Reincarnate (Kanshosha), endowed with psychic abilities and continuous memories, along with the special power to purify and exorcise unredeemed spirits. However, in his current incarnation as Takaya, he lacks these original memories and represses his identity as Kagetora for reasons initially unknown. Despite this, he is thrust into intense psychic battles with reincarnated fighters and land spirits, initially driven by the targeting of his beloved friend, Yuzuru Narita. Gradually, Takaya embraces his role as commander and fighter, wielding boundless, sometimes destructive powers. Though outwardly aloof and dark, he deeply cares for his men, close friends, and younger sister, striving to fulfill the lonely and thankless duty imposed on him by Lord Uesugi Kenshin 400 years ago.
Uesugi Kagetora was a lesser-known historical figure who died young in an internal power struggle within the Uesugi family 400 years ago. Initially taken as a hostage from the neighboring Houjou Clan, he was adopted by Lord Uesugi Kenshin and became deeply respected and loved by him.
