Taiga is the main character of the story, an ordinary guy who initially fails to get into his preferred high school. However, he is soon brought onto the school grounds against his will after being mistaken for a truant student. He possesses a strong-willed personality and never backs down from any challenge. His tenacious nature is only matched by his physical strength, as he excels in hand-to-hand combat. During his preliminary interview at the magic school he now attends, he briefly encounters a cute girl named Aika Hiiragi, whom he instantly develops feelings for. Unfortunately, during his first day at the school, he inadvertently incapacitates her father, putting him on her bad side.
Once admitted to the school, Taiga learns that he won't be learning any magic until they can issue him a proper magic plate. Since his admission, he has been hoping to use magic someday. Despite his inability to perform magic, much of the school believes his magical abilities are far superior to those of any normal freshman, making him very popular. Whenever there's a need to demonstrate magic, Kenjirō Hiiragi has to step in and do it for him.
