A regular at Oya-san's Oden stand and a former professional soccer player, Matsushita becomes intrigued by Sakura Josui after watching their match against Musashinomori. He had quit soccer following a disturbing experience with his teammate Amamiya. However, Katori, the advisor for Sakura Josui, works diligently to convince him to become the team's new coach. Eventually, his old friend Amamiya advises him to let go of the past and move forward, sharing that he still loves soccer despite the incident. Motivated by his friend's words, Matsushita takes on the role of Sakura Josui's new coach. Leveraging his extensive soccer knowledge, he skillfully analyzes opposing teams' strategies and devises effective countermeasures, often leaving the opposition bewildered. On the field, he provides rigorous training and tactical guidance, but off the field, he encourages his players to find their own solutions to life's challenges, offering advice only when they seem truly stuck.
