Shun Ukiya, the central character of the series, is a young Japanese schoolboy who always wears a bandage over his nose, except in the final chapter of Gatekeepers 21. He has a strong passion for kendo. During an encounter with Invaders near his hometown, Ukiya discovers he can open the Gate of Gales. There, he meets Ruriko Ikusawa, a fellow Gate Keeper and childhood friend. After learning about Invaders and A.E.G.I.S., he is invited to join the organization. His Gate color is blue.
After discovering his Gate abilities, he develops skills such as 'Urotora Senpuu Kiri (Ultra Whirlwind Slash)' and 'Shinkuu Misairu (Vacuum Missile)'. His Gate is considered one of the most powerful discovered. Ukiya inherited his Gate from his father, and in Gate Keepers 21, it is revealed that his daughter, Ayane Isuzu, inherited it as well, though she avoids using it.
