Kazuma Kuwabara's tough older sister, Shizuru, shares her brother's high sensitivity to Reiki and immense strength. Initially, she exhibits a stronger sixth sense than Kazuma. At 17, Shizuru wishes for her brother to pursue education and make something of himself. As an aspiring beautician, she gives Keiko a new haircut after Keiko rescues Yusuke from a burning house in Chapter 13: Qualifications for a Girlfriend. Shizuru is a chain smoker and plays a significant role during the Dark Tournament where she falls in love with Sakyo, the owner of Team Toguro, Team Urameshi's rival. Sakyo saves her life twice, but she remains unaware of his true identity until the end. Shizuru knows about Yukina's connection to Hiei, having seen a videotape detailing the mission to rescue Yukina from Gonzo Tarukane, shared only with Botan and Yusuke. Like Keiko, Shizuru is outspoken and capable of delivering a beat-down when necessary, even yelling at Toguro during the Dark Tournament. She appears in the Chapter Black and Three Kings sagas. During the Three Kings saga, frustrated with her brother's reckless behavior, Shizuru begins to strictly discipline Kazuma, urging him to focus on his studies and warning him of the ruinous consequences of continuous fighting. In the anime, Shizuru is introduced later, during the Yukina arc, and has a larger role mainly due to her romance with Sakyo and taking on Atsuko's role.
