Shin tends to avoid drawing attention to himself and prefers to observe situations from a distance. He often comes across as cold and distant towards his classmates, and Yuusuke's persistent pestering annoys him. Initially, he treated Maria with disdain, seemingly wanting nothing to do with her, but circumstances revealed that he genuinely cares for her. He pretends to be "rude" to Maria, thinking this would make the other girls feel sympathy for her. In Chapter 4, he dramatically scooped up Maria in front of the class, declaring he would take her to the hospital due to her sprained ankle, causing a scene as they left. Secretly, he bought Maria a pair of flashy shoes (in addition to the ballet shoes he had already purchased for her) even after previously commenting that such shoes looked ridiculous. Despite claiming he wants nothing to do with her, he finds himself falling in love with Maria but refuses to let the "devil" discover his feelings. It is later revealed that his "loner" demeanor stems from an incident in his childhood where he "choked" during a significant piano debut, leading the media to tarnish his image. In chapter 23, Meguro insists he will stand by Kawai Maria's side no matter what happens.
