Shiki is the offspring of Sou Mikaido, the former kumicho (boss) of the now-defunct Hogougumi clan, and his primary wife. Despite his relaxed and flirtatious exterior, Shiki harbors a fierce and ruthless personality within. His arm tattoo, which signifies his allegiance to Garyukai, has earned him the nickname "Scorpion" from Tsukasa and others.
At just five years old, Shiki was one of the few survivors of the final clash between the Hogougumi and Garyukai clans. Despite Wakasa and Azuma's attempts to protect him, he ended up in Garyukai's custody. Since then, he has held a deep resentment towards Wakasa, whom he blames for abandoning him and his parents during their time of need.
As part of Shiva's scheme, Shiki is distributing Garyukai's "goddess' tear" drug within Kuryugumi territory while accompanying Shiva on his mission to hunt down any remnants of Wakasa. Although Shiki often talks back to Shiva, he secretly fears him. Moreover, his loyalty to Shiva is superficial; his true objective is to reclaim the body of Misumi Souryou, into which Shiva's consciousness was transplanted.
Due to their shared lineage, Shiki and Tsukasa are half-siblings. He regards Tsukasa as more of an annoyance than Ryuuji Shirogami but also feels slightly intimidated by her. Nonetheless, he is among the few who can usually hold their own against her.
