Sakura is Makoto's eldest sister, aged 25. She left home with her boyfriend to elope and avoid the arranged marriage her father had planned for her. Her father, enraged by her actions, took out his frustration on his other children, particularly Makoto. Sakura is estranged from her father and her sister Tsubaki, while Makoto harbors conflicted feelings towards her. Her sister Akane maintains limited contact with her through letters that must be hidden from the rest of the family. Occasionally, Sakura, Akane, and Makoto would meet in secret, but Makoto would always stand silently behind Akane, never speaking to Sakura.
Later in the series, she encounters Makoto and Ito during a class trip and is pleased to see that Makoto has become more open due to Ito's influence. She believes that Ito helps Makoto be himself, especially after being stifled under their father's control. With Ito's help, Makoto and Sakura finally reconcile after six years of silence, although it is evident that there is still work to be done to fully heal the rift between them.
Sakura's husband is a fairly successful artist, and they have a young son named Satoshi. The family makes another appearance when Sakura's husband holds an art exhibition in Tokyo. Through Ito's scheming, Sakura eventually reconciles with her father, with additional assistance from her mother, who forces both father and daughter to behave.
In contrast to her younger sister Tsubaki, Sakura has an obsession with pretty girls, going as far as to give Ito a makeover after one encounter. Her name means "cherry blossom," following the theme of flower names for all three Narita daughters.
