Sadaharu appears to be a giant dog but is actually an inugami. When sitting on his haunches, he towers over most humans. He was left at Gintoki's apartment in a box labeled "To Mr. Freelancer." Sadaharu tends to bite anything smaller than himself, including Gintoki's and others' heads. Kagura seems to be the only one who can control him due to her immense strength, although he occasionally bites her too. Initially dangerous when Gintoki first got him, Sadaharu has since become quite tame and has assisted the main characters on numerous occasions. Kagura named him after her first pet, a rabbit she accidentally killed during a nightmare. Originally, he was owned by two miko sisters who called him Kamiko.
Recently, Sadaharu impressed a yakuza boss and received permission to date the boss's dog, whom Sadaharu has fallen in love with.
