Sadaharu Inui is a third-year student and a regular member of the Seigaku tennis team. Known for his intelligence, he excels in collecting player data and incorporates it into his unique "Data Tennis" playing style.
Four years before the series begins, Inui and Yanagi Renji were an unbeatable elementary school doubles pair. However, their partnership ended when Yanagi moved to Kanagawa Prefecture and joined Rikkaidai. Prior to Ryoma Echizen's arrival at Seigaku, Inui was recognized as the third-strongest player on the team, after Fuji Shūsuke and Tezuka Kunimitsu. He had an intense rivalry with Tezuka, having played over thirty matches against him but losing every time. This spurred him to develop his Data Tennis specifically to defeat Tezuka.
Inui lost his regular position after being beaten by Ryoma in an intra-school ranking tournament and then by Kaidō Kaoru, who was determined not to lose his spot. Following this, he became the team's manager, using his data to create exercise programs for the team. Eventually, Inui regained his place as a regular by defeating Momoshiro Takeshi, utilizing the data he gathered while managing. Despite his guaranteed spot, he continued to lose to the undefeated Tezuka in their matches. Nevertheless, Inui remained enthusiastic about his return to the regular lineup and eager to practice and gather more data.
Though skilled in singles, Inui usually plays doubles, most notably with his protégé Kaidō Kaoru. Their teamwork helped strengthen Seigaku's doubles lineup, which previously lacked strong pairs except for the Golden Pair.
