nagare ryouma

Ryoma is the original leader of the Getter Team and the protagonist in many of the "Getter Robo" adaptations. In the original manga, he is depicted as an extremely violent martial artist and the son of the "Dojo Destroyer" Ichigan Nagare. Ryoma first comes to the attention of Professor Saotome's assistants when he breaks into a karate tournament to take revenge on those who disgraced his father's name. Impressed by his skills, Saotome further tests him by sending three hitmen after him. Ryoma kills all three men and, in his weakened state, is subsequently kidnapped by Saotome and taken to his research center. There, he meets Saotome, along with his daughter Michiru and son Tatsuhito. Shortly thereafter, the research institute is attacked by dinosaurs, leading to the deaths of many staff members, including Tatsuhito. Saotome instructs Ryoma to pilot the incomplete Getter Robo in place of Tatsuhito to combat the dinosaur empire. Ryoma succeeds in this task and continues to serve as the leader of the Getter Team. In the TV adaptation, Ryoma's character undergoes a significant change. He is now portrayed as a football player and appears to have a more laid-back personality.
