Risa is Makoto's mother. She is half English and half Japanese, which explains Makoto's blond hair inherited from his English grandmother. Her maiden name was Amano, the surname Makoto uses as an alias outside of the family. Unlike her husband, Risa believes in allowing her children to make their own decisions. However, she seldom intervenes on their behalf.
When she learned about the challenge between Makoto and his father, she fainted in shock at the thought of her son dressing like a girl throughout his high school years, leading to implications that this caused her health to deteriorate. Despite her frail appearance and gentle demeanor, Risa can be fiercely protective when necessary. A single look from her can cow her husband. This ability comes in handy when she has to forcefully reconcile her husband and eldest daughter, sometimes quite violently.
