She is the miko of the Hakurei Shrine, a remote building far in the east where the boundaries of Gensoukyou and the human world overlap. It is believed that she is the 13th in her lineage.
Reimu is very easygoing—some might even say lazy—and dislikes training. Despite her natural talent, her offensive and magical abilities are only average because of this. However, she has a strong sense of duty and can overcome almost any obstacle through sheer perseverance when it comes to protecting Gensoukyou.
Her main abilities include "flying," good intuition, and getting along with everyone, including former enemies. In the games, she is known for her homing amulets and yin-yang orbs.
Her ability to "fly" should not be confused with the floating abilities possessed by most characters in the Gensokyo Universe. In Japanese, the term "fly" can mean "to be isolated from others," "to be uncertain/undefined," "to have no basis," and finally "to float." For example, in "Eastern and Little Nature Deity," Chapter 2, Reimu walks across a magically concealed river without realizing its existence.
Essentially, Reimu's ability to "fly" could be interpreted as floating, existing undefined within the world, having no basis, and passively performing actions considered impossible by nature, which can only be explained in this way.
