Miyu is a blonde and good-natured girl. Her parents leave for the United States to work for NASA at the start of the series. They arrange for her to stay with their long-time family friend, Hosho Saionji, a monk residing at an old shrine atop a hill. However, the monk soon departs for India on a year-long journey, leaving Miyu to live in the same house with his son, Kanata. Initially disliking the idea of living with a boy, Miyu often clashed with Kanata at the beginning of the series. Yet, she learns from her mother that they were friends as toddlers, and she starts to develop a stronger liking for him as the story unfolds. Miyu feels a deep affection for Luu, who sees her as resembling his mother due to their similar appearances. For a while, she also harbored feelings for Mizuki Yamamura, Mikan Yamumura's cute younger brother. She frequently feels tired because of her parents' habit of leaving her due to their busy schedules and using her to fulfill their wishes, a pattern that has persisted since childhood. Despite this, Miyu remains cheerful and friendly, caring deeply about the people close to her. Years later, she marries Kanata, and they live at the temple.
