The third princess of the kingdom of Asturia, Millerna is in love with Allen Schezar despite being engaged to the merchant prince Dryden Fassa. Her initial ambition was to become a doctor, but she was compelled to abandon her medical studies by her second sister, Eries. Millerna's eldest sister, Marlene, had passed away; she was the wife of Duke Freid and the mother of Allen's son, Chid. Later, Millerna runs away from Asturia to join Van's troupe in pursuit of her dreams. She feels distressed about her engagement to Dryden but eventually starts recognizing his admirable qualities. By the end of the series, however, they part on amicable terms, with Dryden stating, "I will come back when I'm more deserving of you." This leads Millerna to realize that her happiness cannot depend solely on others.
In the 1994 manga adaptation, Millerna's role remains largely consistent. As the princess of Asturia, she is betrothed to Allen and faces a significant dilemma: whether to comply with Zaibach to protect her people from impending threats or to side with Allen, risking her people's involvement in the war. This internal conflict underscores her struggle between duty and personal desires.
