The main character, Kei, was a seemingly ordinary but rebellious high school boy who frequently got into fights with his three close friends. However, one day, his doctor reveals to him and his parents that despite appearing physically male, Kei is genetically female. Consequently, he begins living as a girl and changes his name to Megumi, which uses the same kanji characters as Kei.
After transitioning, Megumi struggles with adjusting to her new identity. Although she dresses as a girl, she still feels more like a boy inside and is most comfortable around Mikoto. As a boy, Kei was often told he was cute, which usually resulted in a punch to the face. Similarly, even after transitioning, Megumi retains much of her original personality, only becoming more feminine towards the end of the story. She tends to be outspoken and blunt at times.
Following the discovery of her genetic condition, Kei took six months off from school to undergo treatments to make his body appear more feminine. Upon returning to school, Megumi was placed back one year to the first year of high school (equivalent to tenth grade in America) due to missed classes and to avoid being in the same class as those who knew her as Kei.
Megumi appears in the series "Princess Princess," also by the author of "The Day of Revolution," as Mikoto's girlfriend. (Source: Wikipedia)
